A dress with someone in mind
The game starts with people, not a finished outfit. Mara Vale is a botanist reopening a greenhouse. Inez Bell is a violinist preparing for a performance. Rowan Chen wants to give his sister something for her café. Their conversations explain the occasion and the kind of movement or color they care about, so a design begins with a reason to make it.
Making rather than only matching
You choose cloth, arrange pattern pieces and cut the visible edges yourself. Drag a gold control point and release to apply a cut, or draw with the freehand scissors. A skirt is prepared in three panels before the pieces are fitted together. Stitch the seams, inspect the garment on the dress form, and use the fitting conversation to decide whether to revisit a neckline, sleeve or hem.
A small atelier you can return to
The current collection has 10 complete outfit patterns and 30 fabrics. Start with three patterns and six fabrics, then earn in-game coins and reputation to open more choices. Completing the three introductory customer orders unlocks free design and shop-window sales. There are nine authored commissions, plus repeat visits with new occasions. You can keep making named outfits and build a wardrobe rather than ending after a single dress.
Built for a quick browser visit
Thread & Tale plays on desktop, phone and tablet without a download or account. There is no real-money checkout. Progress is backed up for the current browser, with a local copy during interruptions; it is not an account that follows you between devices. You can export finished outfit images to keep outside the game.
