How to play the dressmaker game — your first dress, step by step
Thread & Tale is a free browser dressmaking game. Meet your customer, then choose a pattern, cut and sew it. No sewing experience needed. There is no countdown; take your time.
Open a customer letter
Read the occasion and wishes. Ask about colors or movement so the later conversation feels personal.
Choose a dressmaker pattern and cloth
Ten outfits are built from separate bodices, sleeves and skirts. Mix unlocked parts. Six starter fabrics are ready; buy the rest in the fabric shop, then reuse them.
See the 10 patterns and their components →Place the pattern and cut your fabric
Move, rotate and pin the pattern. Drag a gold point and release to cut, or draw a curve with the scissors. Free cut supports either direction and lifting your hand to continue. Safety lines protect the minimum coverage.
Fit the pieces and stitch the seams
Place each piece on the dress form, then stitch the glowing points in sequence. The fitting reads the actual neckline, sleeve and hem. Revisit just one piece when needed.
Deliver and keep your dress
Name the outfit and finish the fitting conversation. Deliver for coins and reputation. Every creation joins your wardrobe instead of replacing the previous one.
Open free design and the shop window
Finish the three introductory customer orders to make your own collection. Offer outfits in the window for different buyer offers, or continue the nine story commissions and repeat visits.
Playing on phone, tablet and desktop
The dressmaker game runs in your browser on phone, tablet and desktop, without an app download. On a touchscreen, drag patterns and gold points with your finger; press and move to draw a free cut, lifting your hand to continue. On desktop, use a mouse, Tab to focus controls, arrow keys for small adjustments and R to rotate a pattern. Assisted cutting is available too.
